A day ON or OFF?

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! I have a question for you. Will this be a day ON or OFF? What do I mean by that? Well, today is a day that we celebrate a the life and legacy of Dr. King. It is an opportunity for us to volunteer to help improve our communities. Everyone's efforts collectively can help improve the lives of others.
Over the years, I have participated in rallies and service projects with my sorority and other local organizations. I remember in 2013 when I was featured on Channel 6 CBS News with another sorority sister to promote a '40 days of peace project' we were spearheading. It was a phenomenal event with hundreds in attendance. We marched around a neighborhood in the Church Hill area in Richmond, VA to spread positivity while a local radio station played music. Afterwards, there was a remarkable program with local officials, residents, community partners and organizations encouraging all to embrace peace and love for one another. I will never forget that moment.
How have YOU served and experienced a day ON in the past? If you haven't, it's not too late. While I won't be in my community working today, I will be home with my family helping to build our financial legacy. As an educator, I will continue to do my part daily to uplift the youth I teach and encourage them to be uplifting citizens in their communities. As an entrepreneur, I will continue to create opportunities for others to grow personally, professionally, and financially. Today, I will step out on faith and help stimulate my economy with 1-2 jobs. I don't have all of the answers, but I have a dream and a vision. As Dr. King said "Faith is taking the first step, even when you don't see the whole staircase!" I encourage you to take the first step as well.
